In the hydraulic systems of mining and heavy construction machinery, the hydraulic cylinder is the executor of power, while the Retaining Ring is the "unsung hero" silently guarding safety. Though small, it shoulders the critical responsibility of securing pistons, guide bushes, and sealing components, constantly resisting axial extrusion forces of up to tens of megapascals.
Designed specifically for heavy construction machinery and mining equipment, this product is manufactured from High Carbon Spring Steel using precision stamping, quenching and tempering heat treatment, and final lapping. It offers exceptional strength, elasticity, and wear resistance. As an indispensable key fastener in hydraulic systems, it is the ideal choice for ensuring long-term stable operation under harsh working conditions.
High Carbon Spring Steel: Unlike ordinary carbon structural steel, we select premium spring steels such as 65Mn, 60Si2Mn, or SWOSC-V. Rich in Carbon (C), Manganese (Mn), and Silicon (Si), these alloys offer extremely high elastic limits and yield strength, making them the only choice for manufacturing high-pressure retaining rings.
Quenching & Tempering: After precision stamping, the rings undergo strictly controlled heat treatment. Quenching imparts high hardness (typically HRC 44-52), while subsequent medium-temperature tempering eliminates internal stress, providing excellent toughness and fatigue resistance. This ensures the ring only elastically deforms under massive axial force, rather than fracturing.
Precision Lapping: For retaining rings used in heavy-duty pumps or cylinders, the contact surfaces are lapped. This removes micro-burrs and unevenness left by stamping, ensuring a perfect fit with the bottom of the groove and preventing damage to the groove wall caused by stress concentration.
Black Oxide / Phosphating: The surface undergoes black oxide or phosphating treatment. This not only gives the ring a professional industrial appearance but, more importantly, forms a dense chemical conversion film. This film effectively isolates air and moisture, preventing red rust, especially when hydraulic oil water content exceeds standards.
Rust Preventative Oil Coating: Before leaving the factory, every ring is immersed in specialized rust-preventative oil. This oil film protects the product during storage and transportation and provides initial lubrication during installation, reducing scuffing.
Stable Axial Pressure Resistance: In heavy hydraulic systems, when system pressure spikes instantly (e.g., during breaker operation), the piston exerts tremendous thrust on the ring. With its high compressive strength, this ring securely locks components in place, preventing piston movement or seal extrusion, thus avoiding catastrophic hydraulic oil blowout accidents.
Protection of Sealing Components: The retaining ring is the "bodyguard" of the seal. By providing solid support, it prevents PTFE or PU seals from being extruded into mating gaps under high pressure, significantly extending the life of the sealing system.
Anti-Fatigue & Anti-Relaxation: In reciprocating cylinders, the ring must maintain long-term resistance to relaxation. Our heat treatment process ensures the ring retains sufficient clamping force even after prolonged compression, without loosening or failing.

Elastic Force Testing: Samples from each batch undergo expansion/compression elastic force testing to ensure the elastic coefficient meets design requirements.
Hardness Inspection: 100% Rockwell hardness testing is performed to ensure values fall within the optimal performance range.
Use Specialized Tools: Never use a screwdriver to pry the ring into place, as this causes twisting, deformation, or nicks. Always use snap ring pliers for installation.
Inspect the Groove: Check that the bottom of the groove is smooth and free of burrs or damage before installation. A damaged groove acts like scissors and will cut the ring.
Do Not Reuse: Retaining rings are disposable fasteners. Once removed, their elastic potential decreases. Reinstalling may fail to provide adequate locking force. Always replace with a new ring during every repair.
